CONCEPT: Graceland Day Book is where we revel in the intelligent, inimitable and totally mesmerising women we come into contact with during our travels; both across the globe on buying trips and en-route to the local dance floor. A series intended to engage and inspire, this précis collection of interviews represents the backbone of Graceland’s ethos: feel stirred, be superb.
Melbournian Model / Assistant Brand Manager Georgah Crane had us hooked on her sense of style as soon as we first crossed paths online. Georgah became one of Graceland's earliest customers when she purchased a piece from our first collection. We chat to Georgah below about life in Melbourne, her personal style and the writers whose books she just can't put down...
Firstly, tell us a little bit about yourself...
I am 23-years-old and have been living in Melbourne for about a year. I live in a little apartment with my boyfriend and our cat, and we are dreaming of a place where we can have a pup. Occasionally I do some modelling, which I love, but my day job is Assistant Brand Manager for a locally made label.
We love and are inspired by your personal style. What inspires your look?
Oh, thank you! I feel like it is evolving all the time. Honestly, I am most inspired by my friends - they are all so effortlessly stylish. I find that Instagram is great for discovering new labels. I am constantly 'screenshotting' outfits and hoping that the brand is tagged!
What matters the most to you when you’re choosing what to wear?
I am currently trying to do the ‘curated wardrobe thing’. My theory is that if I only own pieces that I love and that are simple/minimal then everything will work together and it will make getting dressed so much easier, but I'm not quite there yet. It is very cliché but comfort is key – I will be grumpy all day if my shoes give me blisters or if my pants are too tight.
What is your all-time ultimate vintage / thrift-store find?
One time I found the PERFECT black pleated tennis skirt for $2.50. Sadly, the zip fell out and I haven't been able to wear it since. There have been a few good pieces over the years but I haven't found the one yet. I need to op shop more.
Some of Georgah's must-reads books.
We know you’re a huge fan of literature, who are your favourite writers of late?
Milk and Honey – Rupi Kaur (Amazing! Everybody should read this)
I Love Dick – Chris Kraus (Classic)
Twenty Minutes in Manhattan – Michael Sorkin
We are all Stardust - Stefan Klein
The Last Love Song – Tracey Daugherty
Buying new books to read is an expensive habit so I have to limit myself to 3 books a month.
What do you love the most about living in Melbourne?
I love that you can go out and do something any night of the week, that so many of my beautiful talented friends live here and I can go see their shows/exhibitions/events. I have lived in many places across Australia and New Zealand, and Melbourne really feels like 'home'. People were so welcoming when I first moved here, there's just this sense of comfort when you are surrounded by other like-minded people.
Name a woman who has inspired you in the last month and why?
My best friend, she managed to graduate from her psychology degree, plan a wedding, move house and have a baby, all whilst working her normal job. She is the funniest, strongest and hardest working woman I know!
